This picture was taken during a visit to the facilities of our manufacturing partner, Ribeiro & Campos, located in Barcelos. The family business was founded in 1979. João, who manages the family business today, secretly invited me into the office of his father where all kinds of machines and devices are carefully kept, showcasing a journey in time building the family business.

The way he did that, was illustrative for the way how the company takes care of the products of its clients today. Well meant, authentic, and with great care.
You might say, that the spirit and drive where the family business was built on, still lives today.

While establishing 3V Underwear, we have visited the beautiful beaches of Northern Portugal for so many times. We still enjoy telling stories how we accidentally invented our Beach Club Sand colour during a visit at a popular beach club at “the Foz”, Foz do Douro in Porto. We even published the story on our website!

In our manufacturing process, we pay attention to allow generations after those who wear 3V Underwear today to enjoy clean beaches and seas as we do today. At 3V Underwear, sustainability is not an aim, but a fundamental basis.

We love every minute establishing, developing and improving a sustainable culture of quality and ethics within an end-to-end chain of supply until end-of-life of our products.

On the photo: It really took me some time and effort to find something on the beach to write this into the beach sand and take pictures of it.

But I did, over and over until I thought it was satisfactory. I didn't aim to produce fine photography, but I did want to illustrate why we take so much pride and care to bring 3V Underwear to you!

In and around Porto, one will experience influences of great craftsmanship that the Portuguese have developed from generation to generation in specific crafts and fields. For example, wine and textiles. The activity at the Universidade do Porto runs like a thread through daily life here.

That is where our partner manufacturer produces 3V Underwear, with great care and pride, from 95% fine bamboo. And in an unique knitting gauge, only available within highly specialized and innovative fabric production industry.

It is an absolute pleasant experience to discuss textile and fashion with industry experts  here, as if you would discuss wine and food with a French wine producer.
And I must say, I highly recommend localDourowines and local gastronomy as well.

It is a great feeling to experience true authenticity, great specialism and quality just on a little more than two hours flight fromAmsterdam.
That is what I want to feel each time,  every day, wearing a garment that we manufacture at 3V Underwear.

In the meantime we had doubts to ever bring another color between white and black, until I had a clear moment during a visit to Portugal in December last year. I do such visits to our partner manufacturer more often and I stay in and around Porto. Portugal has many hidden secrets that seem to be known by the Portuguese only. Of course everyone is familiar with their world famous fortified wines known as Port. With some imagination one could assume that Port wine is used just as a cover to protect the undiscovered, highly rich, traditional Douro wines and authentic Portuguese cuisine from negative influences of commercialization. Of course this is a joke but it expresses my thoughts as a lucky guy having experienced some of such secrets of Portuguese culture.

One of my favorite places is the Foz do Douro, the beaches of the Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Douro River, the center of surfing, beach clubs and flamboyant nightlife. Also the very popular Industria Club is located here. There hardly are foreign tourists here.  This is the place where the urban Portuguese from far and wide come together for fun, beach, leisure, food and clubbing.

Beaches here are beautiful, with an almost golden color, a brilliant contrast to the clear blue sea and the snow-white heads on the wave tops. Brown rocks pop up here and there, having mussels growing on then, and as I have been told to be picked fresh for consumption.

I was enjoying the view of the late afternoon surfers in a moment of relaxation at a beach club, the various colors of the beach, the pebbles the road is paved with and the sand on the floor under my bare feet. Suddenly everything fell into place and I realized that I had found the color I was eagerly looking for. This was the moment I chose the new color and immediately gave it a name: "Beach Club Sand".

The true color of beach sand depends on its circumstances, which makes the color so natural and living. In the morning, dew gives the sand has a light golden color, full sun gives a dried out light beige color during the day while wash of sea water gives a color of deep gold. Dusk makes beach sand brassy and shadow during the day at a beach club gives a combination of light grey/brown/orange/yellow. Beach Club Sand!

Eventually we went on the beach with color sample cards and samples of materials in order to work out the final color. This happened on the beaches of Povoa de Varzim, just above Porto.
Beach Club Sand color stands for a beautiful natural color that can be combined with almost any other color, but mostly compensates color differences of body and clothing and therefore is unique to wear under a dress shirt, polo shirt or else. The color is so vivid, natural and alive that this shirt can be worn casual, like over fine jeans or under a casual blazer. 

From 18 to 24 April 2016 is the week of the Fashion Revolution, In a nutshell, this is an initiative born after the disaster wirth a fashion manufacturing factory in Bangladesh in 2013. Fashion brands, labels and manufacturers are asked for more transparency where clothing is manufactured and under whioch circumstances.

To make a start to be more transparent, we have produced a short video with some images made with a smartphone during our visits at our partner manufacturer in Portugal. Please do not expect high quality footage because we did not intend to produce a commercial, only to give a peek where, and by whom 3V Underwear was made.

Did you ever wonder how separate parts of a garment are cutted? At 3V Underwear we love to show you how your t-shirt was done! Come and have a look! We have taken some video shots during our latest visit at the factory of our partner manufacturer in Portugal.

First, the bamboo fabric is spread with about 30 to 35 sheets on top of each other. This might sound easy, but this job takes a lot of experience because all sheets must be totally straight and equal.

When spread, the fabric gets vacuumed to get the fabric in best condition and shape for precise computerized cutting.

>p>This process is done over and over again, depending on the number of meters of fabric knitted and dyed prior to the process of spreading and cutting. These numbers of meters depend on the demand of 3V Underwear. We are so happy to share this with you, doesn’t that say enough?
